Mothers Day downtown Reno

3 ultimate Mother’s Day itineraries and gift guide for downtown Reno

Throw away that once-a-year breakfast-in-bed tray and make it a Mother’s Day weekend to remember for your mom or mother of your children this year.

There are so many options for places to take your mothers but it can sometimes be overwhelming to decide where to go. The Downtown Reno Partnership collected some of the best Mother’s Day deals and also secured a few exclusive outings just for you if you mention us.

We’ve broken our downtown Reno Mother’s Day adventure into three categories: one for art lovers, one for active moms, and one for explorers. The trick is, our itineraries are really easy to mix and match to make the perfect day.

Art lovers day

For moms who love to be inspired by great works of art and intellectual curiosity. Start the day with some jazz, check out some exhibits and end with an unlikely, colorful place.

Morning

Start your morning with the Chef’s Table Holiday Music Brunch at Chez Louie in the Nevada Museum of Art. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., live music will play on the ground floor of the museum. Bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys can be paired with pastries, salads, fruits, smoked seafood, omelette, carving stations and other brunch foods. Reservations are recommended and adults are $39 while children under 12 are only $20

Pro-tip: museum members get a discount. If it’s your first time, that’s OK too, they’ve got you covered.

Afternoon

Next, enjoy the new Western-inspired exhibitions throughout the museum from “Art of the Greater West,” to vintage sheet music from the “Great Mexican-American Songbook.” On your way out, see if there’s any classes you want your kids to sign you up for – you know you’ve always wanted to learn a new skill.

Night

You may not immediately think of it, but Whitney Peak Hotel is full of great photography and art on the walls and their furniture and interior decor is inspirational.

Treat your mother to a “staycation” or getaway at Whitney Peak Hotel with a surprise flower bouquet waiting in her room upon arrival, along with decadent Dorinda’s chocolates! Whitney Peak Hotel has set up a special gift offer for people who book using the code “LOVEMYMAMA for any stay during May.

Gift tip: The Museum gift shop has plenty of great gifts for moms. Sneak downstairs while she’s enjoying an exhibit and pick something out. Members get discounts at the store.

A day for active moms

For moms who are always on the move. Start with a massage then spend the day with family trying new indoor or outdoor sports and end the day with a view of the Truckee River.

Morning

Saint Mary’s Fitness Center is offering one hour massages for 20% off when you mention “Downtown Reno Partnership.” That’ll get mom in for $60 when you book her in advance. While you’re there, check out some of the upcoming fitness classes and ask about how to jump into aqua fitness, pilates, 30-minute cardio or cycle classes.

The Spa at Silver Legacy is selling gift cards for mom so she can get a day to herself. Reminder: If you end up at The ROW for brunch, dinner or Topgolf, this is a good time to grab one and give it midway through a long drive down the fairway or after round two at the buffet.
