Throw away that once-a-year breakfast-in-bed tray and make it a Mother’s Day weekend to remember for your mom or mother of your children this year.
There are so many options for places to take your mothers but it can sometimes be overwhelming to decide where to go. The Downtown Reno Partnership collected some of the best Mother’s Day deals and also secured a few exclusive outings just for you if you mention us.
We’ve broken our downtown Reno Mother’s Day adventure into three categories: one for art lovers, one for active moms, and one for explorers. The trick is, our itineraries are really easy to mix and match to make the perfect day.
Art lovers day
For moms who love to be inspired by great works of art and intellectual curiosity. Start the day with some jazz, check out some exhibits and end with an unlikely, colorful place.
Start your morning with the Chef’s Table Holiday Music Brunch at Chez Louie in the Nevada Museum of Art. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., live music will play on the ground floor of the museum. Bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys can be paired with pastries, salads, fruits, smoked seafood, omelette, carving stations and other brunch foods. Reservations are recommended and adults are $39 while children under 12 are only $20
Pro-tip: museum members get a discount. If it’s your first time, that’s OK too, they’ve got you covered.
Next, enjoy the new Western-inspired exhibitions throughout the museum from “Art of the Greater West,” to vintage sheet music from the “Great Mexican-American Songbook.” On your way out, see if there’s any classes you want your kids to sign you up for – you know you’ve always wanted to learn a new skill.
You may not immediately think of it, but Whitney Peak Hotel is full of great photography and art on the walls and their furniture and interior decor is inspirational.
Treat your mother to a “staycation” or getaway at Whitney Peak Hotel with a surprise flower bouquet waiting in her room upon arrival, along with decadent Dorinda’s chocolates! Whitney Peak Hotel has set up a special gift offer for people who book using the code “LOVEMYMAMA“ for any stay during May.
Gift tip: The Museum gift shop has plenty of great gifts for moms. Sneak downstairs while she’s enjoying an exhibit and pick something out. Members get discounts at the store.
A day for active moms
For moms who are always on the move. Start with a massage then spend the day with family trying new indoor or outdoor sports and end the day with a view of the Truckee River.
Saint Mary’s Fitness Center is offering one hour massages for 20% off when you mention “Downtown Reno Partnership.” That’ll get mom in for $60 when you book her in advance. While you’re there, check out some of the upcoming fitness classes and ask about how to jump into aqua fitness, pilates, 30-minute cardio or cycle classes.
Head over to Bundox Bocce at The Renaissance Hotel with the whole family (including dogs!) and mention the “Downtown Reno Partnership” for a free play session. Sign up for the loyalty program to receive 20% off food and drink that day, too. Bundox Bocce offers indoor and outdoor courts, ski ball, giant Jenga and games for everyone. Order snacks for the family while adults enjoy day drinks from the bar.
OR, if golf is more your speed, take the family to the new Topgolf Swing Suite at The ROW in the Silver Legacy. Topgolf Swing Suite has four golf simulator bays and a variety of virtual games, including the popular Topgolf target game, Zombie Dodgeball, Hockey Shots, Baseball Pitching, Carnival Classic and more. Enjoy lounge seating, HDTVs and extensive food and beverage options.
An afternoon of bocce with the kids requires a cool down at The Shore restaurant on the other side of the hotel. The new extended balcony offers amazing views of the raging Truckee River and serves modern Mediterranean cuisine.
OR if you opted for The ROW route, walk over to The Buffet at Eldorado for Mother’s Day dinner and feed the whole family. Adults are $26.99 and children ages 4 to 10 eat for $15.99.
About town mom
For the unfettered explorer, here’s a mix and match day with great things to get you walking around downtown Reno.
Park in one of the Sierra Street parking garages and start the day at The Buffet at Eldorado for a Mother’s Day champagne brunch. Adults are $39.99 or $19.99 for children 4 to 10 years old. Eldorado club members receive discounts.
Walk over to the Reno River Festival in Wingfield Park for live music, food and to watch white water kayak racing. At noon, jump into the “Mother-Daughter Look-A-Like Contest” on Mother’s Day.
Sneak over to The Eddy cargo container park, grab a booth and settle in. The Eddy offers a little bit for everyone. Order a cocktail or beer from one of the three bars, then snag a wood-fire oven pizza. Find a spot to play giant Jenga, giant Connect Four or regular sized bocce.
OR fancy it up at Wild River Grille or Campo’s outdoor patios along the river. Reservations recommended.
Don’t forget to thank your mom for being the best mom ever with a little something. These gifts are all better when planned ahead; try to avoid the last-minute rush, especially since a lot of them are time sensitive.
Bumblebee Blooms makes excellent flower bouquets that can be customized to her favorite variety. Give the staff a few days notice and a budget and they’ll put together a long-lasting creative flower or plant arrangement that will wow your mom.
The Pioneer Center for Performing Arts has two options she might enjoy. On Mother’s Day weekend, the Reno Phil’s Youth Orchestras will play May 10 and 11. Or buy tickets to Menopause The Musical for the following weekend May 18-19 (“Two weekends just for me!? You shouldn’t have,” she might say).
The Spa at Silver Legacy is selling gift cards for mom so she can get a day to herself. Reminder: If you end up at The ROW for brunch, dinner or Topgolf, this is a good time to grab one and give it midway through a long drive down the fairway or after round two at the buffet.
The Basement in the Post Office is chalk full of gift ideas for mom. The Basement is hosting a Mother’s Day Tea Party Brunch with a workshop afterwards in which mothers will get the opportunity to make their own Pantry Product and will get to keep whatever they make.
Or better yet, take mom to West Elm and set her up with a designer who will help replace those shabby throw pillows she doesn’t love anymore. West Elm is taking 25% off vases, throw, brass items, jewelry boxes and home scents.
