Downtown Reno has everything you need for a successful Valentine’s Day weekend. Between the plethora of bars and restaurants, unique retail options, hotels and spas, you could spend the long weekend making a staycation out of it.

Feb. 14, 2020 might have a few snow showers and is anticipating highs of 36 degrees, according to Weather.com. So bundle up and get cozy. Don’t forget it’s also President’s Day on Monday, so take the time to plan an extra long romantic four-day weekend. Here’s our top tips for making the best of that time.

Parking in downtown after business hours is pretty easy, with the Parking Gallery on First and Sierra streets making a nice homebase or parking in any metered parking spot after 6 p.m. ($1.50 an hour before that). Or, if you’re going the staycation route, jump on the valet or parking options at any of the hotels or casinos in our list.

The Voice of Romance, Johnny Mathis will celebrate his 64th year in the music industry with a performance at Silver Legacy at 8 p.m. Feb. 14. Limited tickets remain and can be purchased at SilverLegacy.com.

Locals can take advantage of 2-for-1 tickets at The Laugh Factory Comedy Club inside the Silver Legacy where comedian Quinn Dahle will appear on Valentine’s Day at 7:30 p.m. Gaither has no specific audience – he is hilarious to all ages and a heckler’s nightmare. Great material, quick wit and a wide range of original characters and stories all spun together with Midwestern charm make his show a must see.

Bring back the feeling of two kids in love by taking your date to the Carnival Midway at Circus Circus for an adventurous night of classic and new arcade and redemption games with a side of free circus shows. Don’t forget to stop by the Blast Bar outside of the XP Arcade for a toast to your forthcoming fun rivalry, then consider dinner at El Jefe’s Cantina or Kanpai Sushi and dessert at Yogurt Beach.

Chinese New Year celebrations will happen simultaneously with Valentine’s Day this year so be sure to catch a glimpse of Leung’s White Crane Lion Dance Association as they parade about THE ROW throughout the evening.

Book an afternoon at the brand new Refuge Spa. It features an express treatment lounge, Float Pod experience, infrared sauna and Social Spa Bar. The Refuge Spa will draw on the freshest techniques and trends in the industry, such as CBD massage, VR meditation massage, hydrafacial and floatation therapy with a focus on infusing a local vibe into treatments. They’ve also added a full bar with a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to add an extra level of revitalization.

At the Refuge, you can have your martini and your massage too. The Refuge is offering a Couples Package including massage, beverages, chocolate treat and take home candle gift, also available as a gift card.

After a massage, head to the the Riverside Movie Theater for extended resting, then window shopping along the Riverwalk and in Patagonia, West Elm and The Basement across the street, it’s time to plan dinner. The Shore serves a Mediterranean-inspired menu in a casual fine dining restaurant and offers riverfront dining with a special V-Day menu for $70 per person and $30 per person wine pairing add-on.

After dinner, walk across the street to the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts for Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville or the Pioneer Underground’s comedy show: “DisMANtled.” The DisMANtled Tour gives audience members the chance to ask the “expert” panel anonymous questions about men’s behavior. The comedians will answer with a mix of truth, humor, darkness and emotion. No two shows are alike.

Settle back in at The Shore Room bar before bed and try a new experience the next day. Might we suggest a friendly game of bocce, the National Automobile Museum next door, The Discovery or Nevada Museum of Art a few blocks south.

You can’t go wrong with all these choices for places to relax downtown!
