‘Stuff A Bus’ donation drive for seniors starts on March 27

During these uncertain times, seniors in our community are afraid to leave their homes to get supplies they desperately need. Many seniors are on a fixed income and are unable to afford basic necessities, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. Local government partners are asking the community to step up and help seniors in need by donating essential, non-food items at Stuff A Bus drive-by donation locations in Reno and Sparks on Friday, March 27, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“Our community cares deeply about our seniors, and we want them to know that we are here for them during these uncertain times,” said Reno City Council Member and RTC Vice Chair Neoma Jardon.

Contact for Seniors in Need:

If you are a senior, and you are staying safe by staying home, we want to help by providing needed supplies. Please contact the City of Reno by calling 775-393-4166 or emailing StuffABus@reno.gov. Calls and emails will be reviewed and returned from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.

How to donate:

Washoe County, the City of Reno, the City of Sparks, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and the Downtown Reno Partnership Ambassadors are partnering to Stuff A Bus for seniors on Friday, March 27, 2020 at two locations from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.:

  • Reno Ballroom, 401 N. Center Street in Reno
  •  Cornerstone Church, 1279 Baring Blvd. in Sparks (Smith’s Parking Lot area)

People who are dropping off donations are asked to stay in their vehicles. Volunteers following CDC recommendations will come get the donated goods from the vehicle. The agencies plan to be very cautious of maintaining proper social distance and limiting the number of volunteers in an area. All donated supplies will be disinfected prior to distribution.

Needed items include new, never-been-used:

  • Toilet paper
  • Adult diapers (all sizes)
  • Bleach and cleaning supplies
  • Socks
  • Facial tissues
  • Paper towels
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Laundry soap
  • Dog and cat food
  • Hobby items, such as books, crosswords, puzzles
  • Spray bottles
  • A note or card of support to remind our seniors that we care about them
