AMBASSADOR HOTLINE:

How to ‘go to’ downtown Reno Easter services from home

Churches in downtown Reno started adapting to COVID-19 by creating new ways to donate and setting up digital sermons even before Gov. Sisolak told houses of worship to close. And with Easter coming this weekend, it’s important for congregations to connect and worship without mass gatherings. Or, as Gov. Sisolak recommended, without visiting each other’s homes.

While the rest of the Reno’s worship centers have also adapted to this, here’s what the downtown worship centers have put together for people to enjoy.

Good Shepherd Lutheran

Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd stopped holding public worship on March 22. They’ve been updating everyone on Facebook but also posting their Sunday services to their YouTube Channel. On their website, Rev. Rev. R. Scott Trevithick outlined ways congregations can continue giving to support the church’s programs during this time.

Reno First United Methodist Church

Reno First United Methodist Church has been posting their Sunday sermons on Facebook and Zoom, also. They are hosting Q&A sessions with their pastor Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Their website has a series of resources they’ve shared from other churches, a Sunday schedule and online donations portal.

Living Stones Church

Living Stones Church has been posting Sunday sermons on their website, YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo (but all can be reached from their main website). They’ve also created a series of blog posts for how to prepare for church at home, how to give, a children’s worship guide and a few other articles that might be good for anyone to read through before doing digital worship.

Trinity Episcopal Cathedral

Trinity Episcopal Church is using their website to host an easy-to-access Easter Sunday schedule with links to their YouTube Channel and Facebook Page. You can also read a message from their pastor and download the Palm Sunday Bulletin and Passion of Matthew to follow along with the story.

Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral

Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral had some technical difficulties in previous weekends but is reporting that they are now setting up daily live mass on their YouTube Channel along with guidance for the congregation on their website. Their website also has online donations set up in the “Online Giving” section.

Catholic Charities and Saint Vincent’s

Catholic Charities is not hosting Easter services, but does the bulk of charity work for the homeless and is looking for money in this time of need and not accepting any new volunteers. They help clothe, feed and shelter the homeless. While the homeless population are in the Reno Events Center, Catholic Charities is still working hard to keep operations going.
