Blue Carpet Treatment to Celebrate Abby’s Highway 40’s New Patio Made from Historic Bricks

The Downtown Reno Partnership invites the community to a Blue Carpet Treatment celebration honoring one of Reno’s most iconic dive bars—Abby’s Highway 40—and the unveiling of its new back patio, constructed with bricks from Northern Nevada’s railroad and architectural history.
The patio bricks were salvaged from the Union Pacific Machine Shop in Sparks, originally built in 1904 and recently demolished by Union Pacific. Bricks used in the new planter boxes were sourced from the original Reno Masonic Lodge building
“In an effort to celebrate local structures, our patio bricks are from the Union Pacific Machine Shop built 1904. Our planter bricks are from the Reno Masonic Lodge, the oldest commercial building in town which was demolished in 2023.”

The first 20 attendees will receive a sponsored house draft, well drink, or mocktail. All attendees will also be entered into a raffle for a $50 Dumpling Queen gift card. Karaoke on the Patio with The John and Rylee Show will be presented by DA Entertainment at 6:00 p.m.
Street parking is available as well as the back lot off Valley Road behind the bar.
The Blue Carpet Treatment is Downtown Reno Partnership’s ongoing campaign to highlight and celebrate new business openings and expansions in the city’s urban core. “This event marks a celebration of preservation, community, and creative reuse—highlighting how pieces of Nevada’s past can help shape its present,” said Neoma Jardon, Executive Director of the Downtown Reno Partnership.
Abby’s Highway 40 offers a classic Nevada bar experience with cocktails, pool, darts, and a refreshed outdoor patio. Dumpling Queen operates from inside the venue, serving bar snacks and sake. Karaoke nights take place every Thursday.
