The Downtown Reno Partnership is a 501c6 nonprofit business improvement district whose core purpose is to make downtown Reno a safer, cleaner, vibrant district for residents and visitors. The Downtown Reno Partnership is an entity funded by downtown-area property assessments administered through the Washoe County Assessor’s Office. Those funds pay for operations, street maintenance administered by the City of Reno, Streetplus-administered Ambassadors, marketing and economic development.

Those funds pay for operations, street maintenance administered by Reno Public Works, extra downtown Reno Police officers, Streetplus-administered Ambassadors, marketing and economic development.

The City of Reno began researching business improvement districts in 2014.
Visited with the Sacramento BID to learn best practices for launching and running a BID.
City council approved Nevada’s first business improvement district, one of thousands in the country, to assist in the revitalization of downtown Reno. While the city is growing and changing everywhere else, downtown has lagged behind. So, Reno created the business improvement district to address these ongoing safety and cleanliness issues, economic development and homelessness. The BID replaced two previous City of Reno special assessment districts that paid for maintenance and additional police in Reno’s core.
Downtown Reno Partnership officially established.
Office set up, staff hired, and trained the first fourteen ambassadors.
Ambassador Program Implemented.
Urban Main Street Committee formed to apply for a Nevada grant that would fund street beautification on Virginia Street and launched an Economic Development Program.
Added a team of two Ambassadors dedicated to cleaning including the use of a pressure washing truck.
Construction and painting of the Locomotion Plaza.
Created daily walks with City of Reno personnel to address hotspots and issues in real time.
Selected to host the West Coast Urban District Form welcoming nearly 200 leaders and professionals from over 20 downtown communities.
Secured new pieces of equipment to help with Ambassador patrols and cleaning including a T-3, a truck and SCRUBS to clean sidewalks.
Launched the Vacant Storefront Beautification program proven in other cities to draw attention and new tenants to previously vacant locations.
The Night Walk program is launched. A team of four Ambassadors patrol from 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Serving as the eyes and ears of downtown to help deter illegal activities and prevent problems from establishing.
